- Using a T5 Torx Screwdriver, begin unscrewing the four 11.0 mm screws from the back panel.

- Using a plastic opening tool or similar object, find the groove in the side of the device and begin prying open the back panel. Work the tool around the entire panel until it pops off.

- Lift the beige clamp using a tweezer or your fingernail and remove the connector.

- Lift the connector gently from the socket, making sure you pull in the right direction.

Battery
- Using a pair of tweezers, grab the connecting wires and lift the terminal from the motherboard.
- Avoid contacting battery terminals with metallic objects.

- Pry the battery out of the back cover using a plastic opening tool.
- Work the edges and apply force when removing the battery, as it will be glued down.

Can someone give me the close picture of motherboard area near usb charger. I have problems with charging device. I think one chip burned.

The T10 Torx screwdriver mentioned in this article and sold by IFixit (product number IF 145-080-4) is too big and does not fit the much smaller screws on the Garmin 2460. I wasted around £10 on a screwdriver that does not do the job!

- The twisted wires from the back cover to the circuit board may not have a connector. The wire in mine was secured to the circuit board with two molecule-sized spots of solder which, of course, broke loose as soon as I opened the cover, stretching the too-short wire to its limit. I don’t know the funtion of this pair of small, twisted wires. They go from the circuit board to a slit opening in the back cover. Maybe a microphone for the bluetooth?? With no way to re-solder the two barely visible spots, I taped the wire out of the way and closed the unit back up. GPS functions all still work. Haven’t tried the bluetooth…I don’t use it anyway.

Sounds easy until you try to reconnect the tape connector to the motherboard. You need the eyes of an eagle, the luck of the Irish, and the patience of Job to remake that connection.
