Introduction

Printed parts needed:

1x Extruder__-_bondtech_Rear_mount.stl

What you need

Step 1

              Extruder Gear
  • I’ve found mounting the stepper gear to the stepper shaft can be the most difficult part.
  • Start by sliding the stepper gear on the stepper shaft so the set screw is on the flat side of shaft.
  • Mount the extruder mount to the frame with 2x M5x10 button head screws and 2x M5 T-nuts. Placement isn’t an issue because this is only for putting the gear on the stepper shaft
  • Disassemble the BMG extruder and place the back half on the extruder mount. Make sure the orientation is correct. Place the E stepper motor in the mount.
  • Using 2x M3x20 socket head screws and 1x M3x30 socket head screw mount the back half and the stepper to the mount.

Step 2

              Extruder Gear
  • Insert the large gear into the back housing so the teeth mesh with the stepper gear teeth.
  • Move the stepper gear down towards the stepper until the teeth mesh.
  • This can be a bit of trial and error. Make sure the large gear is straight. When you move the large gear left or right the stepper gear should move the opposite way with no backlash.
  • Tighten the set screw on the stepper gear. The stepper gear should be about 3mm from the end of the shaft

Step 3

              Extruder Mount Placement
  • Remove the large gear, the 3 screws and the stepper motor.
  • Now you can place the mount in your desired location. As you can see with mine I have the BMG on the inside of the frame. This is because of the spool holder I chose to go with.

Step 4

              Extruder Mount Assembly
  • Reassemble the BMG extruder housing.
  • Place the stepper in the mount with the connector facing down.
  • Place the BMG extruder housing on the mount and use 3x M3x35mm socket head screws to secure the housing and the stepper motor to the mount.

Reassemble the BMG extruder housing.
