Disconnect the spark plug
- Move the stop switch into the “stop” position to turn the pruner off before attempting any repairs.
- Pull the spark plug cap straight off of the spark plug.

Remove the chainsaw
- Use a T25 Torx screwdriver to loosen (but don’t remove) the four screws clamping the chainsaw blade to the upper main pipe.

- Loosen (but don’t remove) one T25 Torx screw securing the chainsaw to the upper main pipe.

- Pull the chainsaw straight off of the upper main pipe.

Remove the upper main pipe
- Remove three T25 Torx screws securing the coupler to the lower main pipe.
- Remove the thumb screw securing the coupler to the lower main pipe.

Remove the thumb screw securing the coupler to the lower main pipe.
Step 6
- Pull the upper main pipe and the coupler away from the lower main pipe until the upper main pipe slides free from the lower main pipe.

Remove the coupler
- Insert a flathead screwdriver or small pry bar into the seam in the coupler near the thumbscrew’s location.
- Twist the pry bar to create a gap in the seam of the coupler big enough to be able to slide the coupler over the rivet toward the end of the main pipe.
- Slide the coupler over the rivet and off of the main pipe.

Step 8
- Remove the coupler from the upper main pipe.
- Just the upper main pipe assembly, with the upper driveshaft, should remain.
- Your new upper driveshaft should come with a black socket on one end. If this isn’t the case, install a new inner socket and outer socket on the new driveshaft.
- Your new upper driveshaft may not come already installed in the new upper main pipe. If so, apply grease to the outside of the upper driveshaft, then slide it into the upper main pipe, with the black socket facing toward the open end of the upper main pipe.
Remove the coupler from the upper main pipe.
Just the upper main pipe assembly, with the upper driveshaft, should remain.
Your new upper driveshaft should come with a black socket on one end. If this isn’t the case, install a new inner socket and outer socket on the new driveshaft.
Your new upper driveshaft may not come already installed in the new upper main pipe. If so, apply grease to the outside of the upper driveshaft, then slide it into the upper main pipe, with the black socket facing toward the open end of the upper main pipe.
To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
