The device’s power cuts in and out.
The vacuum may have picked up something that didn’t reach the bin, it could be stuck in the brushbar, the shaft, or the bin inlet. Remove the tool, shaft, and bin inlet using this guide and remove any possible debris in each section.
The filter may be old and clogged. Remove the bin filter using this guide and test the device. If the device works properly with the filter removed, consider replacing the filter. Replace the filter using this guide.
The device may need to be charged as the battery may be low or depleted. The device typically needs to be charged for 3.5 hours. Check if the devices LED located on the base of the battery is flashing. If the light is flashing refer to The Device’s LED Flashes page.
The device rattles while in use.
The additional tools may have a loose connection to the shaft and motor. Remove all tools and test vacuum.
Debris may be lodged or stuck in the Bin or Bin Inlet. Using this guide remove and empty the bin making sure there are no large pieces of debris lodged or stuck.
The device will not turn on.
The device may need to be charged as the battery may be low or depleted. The device typically needs to be charged for 3.5 hours. Check if the devices LED located on the base of the battery is flashing. If the light is flashing refer to The Device’s LED Flashes page. If the power continues to fail due to the battery, you may need to replace it using this replacement guide.
There may be debris blocking key suction areas in the vacuum. Remove the tool, shaft, and bin using this guide while checking for and removing debris.
Either of the devices two filters may be clogged. Using the Intake Filter guide and Bin Filter guide, check to see if both filters are blocked. Clear away large debris and test device. If the device still has no power consider replacing the filters. Replace the appropriate filter by following the corresponding guides provided above.
The device’s brushbar fails to rotate when in use.
The brush bar could be inserted wrong and causing the backup. Using this guide, try removing the brush bar and then reinsert the brush bar back in making sure to line up the grooves correctly.
Debris may be caught on the brushbar preventing movement. Using this guide remove the brush bar and clean the bar of debris. Make sure no debris is left on the bar or the surrounding cleaner head to catch or tangle with debris when reinstalled.
If your brushbar is visible broken or the steps above do not apply, you may need to replace the brushbar. You can use this replacement guide.
The device’s suction power is too low.
Debris may have become lodged in the air intake. Remove the intake filter by following this replacement guide. Check the filter for debris clogging the filter. If needed, wash with water and let dry for 24 hours before replacing the filter.
Debris may have become lodged in the shaft. Using part of this guide, remove the tool from the motor and check the shaft for debris. Test the device and if the device still has low suction refer to Blocked Air Intake or Blockage in Brushbar.
Debris may have become lodged in the brushbar, blocking the airflow. Using this guide check all the attachments you have on the vacuum for any blockages and remove them.
The light on the base of the battery starts flashing.
This light means that the vacuum battery is low. Charge your Dyson before using it again.
This fast flashing means that the vacuum is experiencing no power or that there are blockages in the system. Refer to The Device Has No Power, The Device’s Brushbar Does not Rotate, or The Device Has Low Suction.
The amber light means there is no power because of temporary faults such as overheating or being in too low of temperatures. Stop using the vacuum and wait for it to cool or warm.
The red flashing light means something more serious is wrong with your Dyson vacuum and that repair is needed. Contact Dyson Support to receive more information. 1 (844) 679-1647.
