Introduction

Some laptops allow for a combination of an HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and an SSD or either one for their memory storage. SSDs have a reputation for being more powerful and smaller than HDDs, and they do not use any moving parts to access data like an HDD would.

Before beginning, make sure the laptop is off and the laptop is disconnected from any power source.

What you need

Step 1

              Back Panel               
  • Using a T5 Torx screwdriver, remove ten 4.0 mm screws from the back panel of the laptop.

  • Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, remove two 5.0 mm screws underneath the XPS badge door.

Step 3

  • Wedge the scribe between the backplate and remove the bottom base cover.

Step 4

              Solid State Drive (SSD)               
  • Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, remove a single 3.0 mm screw from the SSD bracket.

Step 5

  • Using the same Phillips #2 screwdriver, unscrew and remove one 2.0 mm wafer screw from the SSD bracket.

Using the same Phillips #2 screwdriver, unscrew and remove one 2.0 mm wafer screw from the SSD bracket.

Step 6

  • Pull out and separate the SSD bracket and SSD, replacing the old SSD with a new one.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
