You have your laptop open and try to power it on but the screen is black and there is nothing being displayed.
If this is the case, be sure that your power / charging cord is plugged into a power source, such as an outlet.
If the laptop is plugged into a power source and is still not turning on, you could have a faulty cord. Consider buying a new power cord for your laptop.

You are trying to use your laptop but the screen is frozen and unresponsive.
Sometimes when you go a while without restarting your computer and you use it frequently, the computer may tend to be slower or even freeze. Simply restart your computer and you should be good to go. It is also a good note to restart your computer every once in a while to prevent this from happening in the future.
Computers can be infected by malware/viruses. You may experience random pop-ups of multiple windows, which may slow down your computer or even completely freeze it. Try purchasing spyware in order to remove the malware.
You can hear the computer running but there is no indication of it on the screen, and the screen does not respond to any commands. This could be the cause of a faulty screen that needs to be replaced. Use this repair guide to replace your screen.
Something is preventing the CD tray from opening and allowing you to use it.
When the CD is stuck within the CD-ROM and and the computer shows no reaction after pressing the eject button, there is a possibility that the eject button is broken. If you right click the disk drive on a Windows computer and you click “Eject”, and nothing happens, try using this repair guide to replace the CD Drive.
Sometimes the outer plastic covering for the CD ROM can get stuck within the socket for the CD ROM itself. Check to see if this is the case. A telling sign will be if the CD ROM is making noise like it is trying to open but something is preventing it from opening. An easy solution to this is simply getting a regular or flat headed screwdriver, and gently prying the CD covering to make sure it is not or no longer jammed.
Computer seems excessively warm and could be acting slower than usual or the screen has stopped responding.
Fans are used to prevent your laptop from overheating by circulating air into the laptops system. If these cooling fans are blocked, it can cause the laptop to overheat. Be sure that there is nothing blocking these fans such as, objects or excessive dust that could be clogging the air ways.
Excessive computer heat could also be a result of your computer doing too much work at once. Closing some programs or leaving your computer alone could help it cool down to acceptable levels.
