Introduction

For your safety, discharge your battery below 25% before disassembling your device. This reduces the risk of a dangerous thermal event if the battery is accidentally damaged during the repair. If your battery is swollen, take appropriate precautions.

What you need

  • Be sure to power off and unplug your device before you begin your repair.
  • Unscrew the back cover using a Phillips #0 screwdriver.

  • Remove the back cover using an opening tool.

  • Use a T8 Torx driver to remove the five screws around the battery.

  • Remove the Battery Cable by gently tugging it perpendicular from the surface it is attached to.

  • Pull the battery out of the laptop by prying it away from the laptop. If you’re having difficulty removing it, you can also use a plastic opening tool.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

Take your e-waste to an R2 or e-Stewards certified recycler.
