Introduction

The recoil starter is a part in the lawnmower that starts the engine when you pull the cord. Then, with a spring, it coils the cord back into the lawnmower. When the spring is damaged, the recoil starter can not coil the cord back into the lawnmower.

However, instead of demonstrating how to replace the spring, in this guide I will show how to replace the whole recoil starter.

What you need

Step 1

              Recoil Starter               
  • Remove the four screws from the hood of the lawnmower using a Phillips #0 screwdriver.

Step 2

  • Remove the hood of the lawnmower by pulling up.

Step 3

  • Using a wrench, remove the three nuts from the lawnmower’s defective recoil starter.

  • Remove the defective recoil starter by pulling up.

  • Place the new recoil starter in the lawnmower where the defective one was prior.

  • Tighten the new recoil starter onto the lawnmower with a wrench and the nuts you had removed earlier.

Step 7

  • Tighten the hood back onto the lawnmower with a Phillips #0 screwdriver and the four screws you had removed previously.
  • Make sure not to screw the hood on too tightly.
