  • Firstly Disconnect battery
  • Always take the negative terminal off first.
  • ‘‘‘General Tip After disconnecting the battery leave the car for about 10 mins , This lets any residual energy left in the electrical system to dissapate. It is good practise whatever the job

Step 2

              Removing Throttle Body               
  • Locate throttle body on right side of engine, it is between the intake tube and intake manifold.

  • Locate throttle linkage cable assembly.

  • Twist the assembly clockwise.

  • Slide both slackened cables off assembly’s guides.

  • Locate the two hoses on the top of the throttle body.
  • Gently lift the hoses off.

  • Use a flat head screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp attaching the intake tube to the throttle body.

  • Remove the intake tube from the throttle body.

  • Locate wiring clip on the underside of the throttle body.

  • Press down on the locking mechanism before gently removing the wiring clip.

  • Locate throttle linkage arm.
  • Open the locking clip with a flat head screwdriver.
  • Pry off the linkage arm with a flat head screwdriver.

Step 12

  • Locate the three 13mm nuts attaching the throttle body to the intake manifold.
  • Remove nuts with a 13mm crescent wrench.

Step 13

  • Lift the throttle body off of the intake manifold.
  • The manifold is now out of the engine bay and ready for cleaning or adjustment.

Step 14

              Cleaning 1985-1988 Volvo 740 Throttle Body               
  • Cover the electrical contacts with a shop towel to prevent throttle body cleaner from inadvertently spilling over.

  • Liberally apply throttle body cleaner to the inside of throttle body and butterfly valve.
  • Use a shop towel sprayed with cleaner to wipe off thick grime if severely dirtied.

Step 16

  • Spray electrical cleaner on the metal contacts to blast away particles in the bracket.
  • Spray off the wiring clip that attaches to the throttle body inside the engine bay.

Step 17

  • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the metal contacts to prevent corrosion.
