Step 1
Disconnect all power cables
- Before you begin your repair, disconnect all power cables to reduce the risk of short circuits and electric shock.

Remove the dust bag
- Pull on the dust bag to remove it from the dust tube.
- If the dust bag doesn’t slide off easily, gently twist it back and forth while pulling to free it from the tube.

Remove the dust tube
- Pull up on the dust tube to remove it from the sander.

Remove the belt guard screws
- Use a long Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the belt guard:
- One 1/4-20 x 18 mm screw
- One 1/4-20 x 30 mm screw

Remove the belt guard
- Remove the belt guard.

Remove the dust shoe plate
- Carefully tilt the floor sander onto its side, exposing the sanding drum and the dust shoe plate.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the four screws on the underside of the sander securing the dust shoe plate.
- Remove the dust shoe plate.

Step 7
Loosen the motor mount nuts
- In the following steps you will loosen the nuts that hold the motor in place on the frame of the sander to release the tension on the fan belt.
- For the purposes of this repair, there is no need to fully remove any of the nuts in the following steps. Just loosen them enough to allow the motor to slide back and forth.

Step 8
- Use a socket wrench with an extension and a deep 1/2" socket to loosen the two nuts behind the dust shoe plate.
- The nuts may be very tight. Use a breaker bar or impact driver if necessary.

- Use a 1/2" wrench to loosen the other two nuts securing the motor.

De-tension the fan belt
- Slide the motor along its mounting slots toward the back of the sander until the fan belt is detensioned.
- During reassembly, slide the motor back to its original position before tightening the four motor mount nuts. Check that both belts are properly tracked and tensioned before securing the belt guard back into place.

Remove the fan belt
- Remove the fan belt.

Drum Belt
- Pull the grip lever at the top of the handle to lift the sanding drum off of the floor, so that it can spin freely.

Remove the drum belt
- To remove the drum belt, pull it away from the sander while hand turning the belt on the drum pulley in a counter-clockwise direction. The belt will come off after a few rotations.

- To reinstall a drum belt:
- First, loop the drum belt around the wider half of the motor pulley (the side closest to the motor).
- Then place the edge of the other end of the belt around the drum pulley, and manually drive the belt and pulleys in a counter-clockwise direction until the belt works itself back into alignment with the pulleys.
