Step 1

              Disconnect all power cables               
  • Before you begin your repair, disconnect all power cables to reduce the risk of short circuits and electric shock.

              Remove the dust bag               
  • Pull on the dust bag to remove it from the dust tube.
  • If the dust bag doesn’t slide off easily, gently twist it back and forth while pulling to free it from the tube.

              Remove the dust tube               
  • Pull up on the dust tube to remove it from the sander.

              Disconnect the control link arm               
  • Slide the collar on the control link arm up until the two halves of the arm detach from one another.

  • Pull up on the latch at the bottom of the handle assembly, then remove the retaining plate from its slot in the handle.

              Remove the handle               
  • Pull up on the handle assembly and remove it from the sander.

              Loosen the nut around the control switch               
  • Use a socket wrench with a deep 9/16" socket to remove the retaining nut and star washer from the control switch toggle.

              Remove the control housing screws               
  • Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the six screws on the control housing—three on either side.

              Open the control housing               
  • Lift the control housing up and swing it open so the wiring panel inside is accessible.
  • The housing is still attached to the handle tube, do not try to pull it away completely.

Step 10

              Disconnect the control switch terminals               
  • Before disassembly, note where each lead connects. Be sure to return each one to its original position in the wiring panel during reassembly.
  • Use a #2 Phillips head screwdriver to remove the following three screws from the wiring panel:
  • Two 10-32 x 3/8" screws
  • One 8-32 x 3/8" screw
  • Remove the ring and fork terminals from the screws.

Before disassembly, note where each lead connects. Be sure to return each one to its original position in the wiring panel during reassembly.

Use a #2 Phillips head screwdriver to remove the following three screws from the wiring panel:

Two 10-32 x 3/8" screws

One 8-32 x 3/8" screw

Remove the ring and fork terminals from the screws.

Step 11

              Remove the control switch               
  • Pull and gently wiggle the control switch to remove it from its mounting hole in the control housing.
  • There may be an additional star washer on the toggle switch inside the housing. Remove and retain it for reassembly.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
