Introduction

Steps:

  • Download the latest firmware from Kenwood.https://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/index.php?… =index-> Firmware v1.07: te1316e.krmHave a USB stick that the radio can read. (e.g. with music mp3 or similar)Follow the very good instructions from Kenwood.

In most cases, this should be enough to do the whole thing without any problems.

Only for me there were some difficulties that had to be circumnavigated.

Important: When updating, states can occur in which the radio is no longer usable! If you can’t get out of it, you no longer have a radio!

Also important!: During the ongoing update, neither the USB stick may be removed nor the radio switched off!

Therefore, please read the possible problems in the final part and, if necessary, the possible solutions in the PDF.

What you need

Step 1

              preparation
  • Download the latest firmware from Kenwood
  • Copy the firmware to the USB stick in the root directory
  • Insert the USB stick into the USB port of the radio. (Front or cable on the back doesn’t matter)
  • Make sure the radio recognizes the USB stick. E.g. If there is an mp3 file on the USB stick, this can be tested by simply playing the MP3. This ensures that the USB stick is correctly formatted.

Insert the USB stick into the USB port of the radio. (Front or cable on the back doesn’t matter)

Step 2

              Perform normal update
  • Use the “SRC” button to put the radio in “STANDBY” mode.
  • Display the menu by pressing the volume knob.
  • Select the item “SYSTEM” and press the volume button.
  • Then select the item “F/W UPDATE” and press the volume button.
  • Then select “UPDATE SYSTEM” and press the volume button twice.
  • Then select “YES” and press the volume button.

Use the “SRC” button to put the radio in “STANDBY” mode.

Display the menu by pressing the volume knob.

Select the item “SYSTEM” and press the volume button.

Then select the item “F/W UPDATE” and press the volume button.

Then select “UPDATE SYSTEM” and press the volume button twice.

Then select “YES” and press the volume button.

Step 3

              If everything is right, follow
  • The radio switches itself off briefly and then back on again
  • The display shows “UPDATING”.
  • after approx. 5 minutes the display shows “COMPLETED”.

Step 4

              Completion
  • You can only continue here when “COMPLETED” is displayed
  • Detach the front panel with the release button on the bottom left
  • Press the reset button in the radio body
  • Reattach the front panel
  • If the radio is now switched on again with the “SRC” button, the DEMO mode should start and the update should be completed.
  • All old settings can now be set again.

Possible problems:

  • In the normal mode of the radio, when the “UPDATE SYSTEM” is activated, “FILE CHECKING” is displayed very briefly and then “NO FILE”.Cause: a) The USB stick is not formatted in the appropriate format (-> FAT32 or FAT16 are good)b) The correct firmware update file is not stored directly in the root directory of the USB stick (only the file name is checked -> for a radio type only one firmware file name is evaluated as valid)After the automatic switching off and on, first “WAIT” appears, then “FILE CHECKING” and then “NO FILE”.Cause: Firmware filename verification is different between normal radio mode and update mode.This case is fatal because you can no longer return to radio mode without having imported a valid update…
